Welcome to GMWebbmask.com!

Thank you so much for visiting. I want to welcome those who have already experienced my
work and those who may be experiencing it for the first time. Art can help us move beyond the
barriers of culture and interpretation. Here, wire connects us, literally and figuratively. Wire is
uniquely used to create avant-garde depictions, celebrating humanity's diversity and the
universality of life.

About The Artist

G.M. Webb, is a contemporary artist gaining considerable attention among  collectors. He
expands his medium by intricately twisting aluminum, copper and color-coated wire by
hand. There is no welding involved. The resulting masks composed of distinctive and
intricate patterns capture the essence of humanity. Though his work exudes cultural
character, Webb has an exceptional ability to transcend the obvious. Many have called his
work simply "beautiful", "unbelievable," "awesome". His sculptures tell stories.

His work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions in Arizona, California, Florida,
Georgia, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Utah. Featured in The New
Pittsburgh Courier and both The Arlington and Ft. Worth Star-Telegrams, as well as The
Soul-Pitt and KDKA (CBS-affiliate) websites, his work has benefited such charities as the
Boys & Girls Club of Greater-Ft. Worth, the Great Lakes Theater Festival in Ohio, the
Holy Nativity Episcopalian School in Florida and the literacy council of Prince George's
County, MD.

A Pittsburgh native, Webb currently lives in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

Artist Statement:

MEDIUM:  Sculpture

I am the sole creator of each of the masks and abstract sculptures. I use a variety of wire
materials such as Aluminum, Artistic, Copper, Stainless Steel and Magnet wire.  I choose
to use mainly small to medium gauges.  While aluminum and copper are my base wires, the
colored artistic and magnet wire used is also manufactured to remain permanent.   No
other materials are used.

My special and self developed unique technique is called Webbing. The Webbing technique
is a process of connecting wire together without using welding or soldering. Strands of
wire are shaped by hand into intricate patterns. Each strand is then connected by twisting
them together using needle nose pliers. As the sculpture begins to take shape, many layers
of wire are then applied in this lengthy process. When finished, an average sculpture can
contain 200-600 wire strands of varying lengths, gauges and colors.

My subject matter originates from my memory and imagination.  As the process begins, I
visualize the subject, colors to be used and the sculpture size. I allow what I have
visualized to direct the process and I only sketch if it becomes unclear. Most of the time
the sculpture presents and develops itself as I work.
